For many, a new year brings a time for evaluation. Reflecting on recent shortcomings as well as a consideration of how to do better over the next 12 months. I find it to be a therapeutic process regardless of the concrete actions you get from the process. For media companies, working life can be fast-moving and challenging. Therefore, sourcing, capturing and producing the best content they can for clients is the number 1 priority but something must give way.
For most, secure and efficient media management is that thing.
It’s the time-consuming, hard-to-get-your-head-around task that no one is pressuring you for. It’s easy to neglect – mostly because the benefits aren’t always clear. However, Improved media management can make you and your team’s life much simpler, make content more impactful, and save you some man hours down the road. With this in mind, I present 4 things you should consider to up your game in 2019.
Learn from last year
From sending content to the wrong person accidentally or spending hours looking for a file you’ve misplaced on an old hard drive or in buried folders, do yourself a favour and take a moment to consider how you can avoid the same thing happening this year.
Establish, or reinforce a company-wide process for storing, labelling and sharing all your media. One intuitive and searchable destination where content is located and backed up, enabling relevant members of your team to find and access it at any time.
Be your best you
Media companies spend hours getting the perfect shot or edit for their clients but often don’t sufficiently consider how their audience will experience the produced videos. You might create a gorgeous and impactful video but if you share it through YouTube or on an old flash drive, you’re missing an opportunity to really impress.
This year, make sure you wow your audience with online delivery that proves you care about the finer details.
Stop putting off the inevitable
It’s time to get your house in order. It’s easy to find yourself cutting corners for short term gains but it always comes back to bite you later on. Start the year afresh and look to consolidate your media into sensible locations that make sense now and in the future.
Until your media collection is collated and correctly labelled, you’ll never have a secure or fully searchable library or achieve your efficiency potential.
Set yourself a goal
With the right tools in place, a strict media management process and a better understanding of your team’s day-to-day workflow, some huge efficiencies can be made. As organisations increasingly use and rely on media content, the volume of content that needs to be produced and reused will grow. Consider setting yourself a goal to ensure you’re capable of supporting and exploiting this growing library of content in 2019 and beyond.
