5 ways internal videos boost morale and productivity

Most companies have a firm grasp on how video content can promote their brand, products, improve their SEO and connect with customers. But is there a way that organisations could leverage the power of video internally? Video content is gaining popularity within the corporate environment as more than one quarter of companies planned to launch internally-focused enterprise videos in 2013, up from 21 per cent in 2010, according to a report from Forrester Research. Additionally, three-quarters of respondents from ‘The State of Video in the Enterprise’ believe video will play an important role in business communications in the near future. Here are five ways to use video internally to improve productivity, communication and collaboration within your business:

1. Training

Almost 64 per cent of respondents to the enterprise survey are using video for training to improve knowledge and engagement with staff. Four-fifths of respondents also said that using videos improved the training process for new employees.

2. Internal communications

Want to add a little more colour to your internal comms? Using video to promote company initiatives, make corporate announcements and for other such internal interactions improves working relationships between executives and employees, according to four-fifths of respondents.

3. Knowledge sharing

A notable majority (95 per cent) of respondents said videos were the most valuable format for improving knowledge sharing within their company. Employees can share how-to tutorials and best practices effectively through video and sharing employee-generated content can also boost creativity, engagement and empower staff.

4. Event coverage

Live streaming of events can bring disperse teams working in different regions together, helping to foster an integrated company culture. An internal video news portal could help to keep everyone in the loop, for example.

5. Social networking

Video content should be used internally within existing online environments, such as blogs, wikis, corporate portals and content management systems. However, it could be advantageous to create a standalone video portal to house all of your corporate video content, according to 70 per cent of the enterprise survey respondents.   However you decide to embrace video content within your business environment, it is important to deliver it in the most accessible, yet secure way possible. This can be easily achieved with our Imagen hosting platform which gives admin users full control over who can access your corporate content. You could even, for example, create a collection of videos targeting specific groups of employees, allowing users to make edits, add notes and share collections online.
