Racing Past Media signs with Reuters Imagen to preserve and distribute historic motorsport archive, including Formula One, rally and touring car footage

Date: October 29, 2026

Racing Past Media Archive

Reuters Imagen today announced a three-year partnership with Racing Past Media (RPM), the specialist archive of historic motorsport content. Under the agreement, Reuters Imagen will enable Racing Past Media to preserve, maintain and distribute RPM's extensive collection, including rare footage from Formula One's first three decades, historic rally championships and iconic touring car races.

The partnership will power an AWS-hosted archive on a cloud-native platform designed specifically for media organisations that need to surface, manage and distribute content at scale. With a unified and easy-to-access platform, Racing Past Media can serve documentary makers, broadcasters and motorsport enthusiasts with historic motorsport footage.

The collection captures pivotal moments that shaped modern racing: early Grand Prix races, the evolution of car technology and performances by legendary drivers that set the foundation for today's competitors. By enriching this content with intelligent metadata, tagging and discovery, Reuters Imagen enables RPM to reach broadcasters and production teams so they can easily access and license this material.

"Racing Past Media exists to connect the history of motorsport with the people who want to tell those stories," said Steve Rider, sports presenter and founder of Racing Past Media. "Reuters Imagen understood immediately that this archive is about more than preservation. It's about making footage discoverable and accessible to a global audience of documentary makers and fans who care about how motorsport has evolved."

"This partnership demonstrates what's possible when you combine a specialised archive with a platform built for media discovery," said David Wilkinson, Head of Reuters Imagen. "RPM sits on one of the most important collections in motorsport history. With Reuters Imagen, RPM can make their content easy to find, deliver and license, becoming the natural first stop for anyone producing motorsport content."

Reuters Imagen's platform handles the full content lifecycle: secure cloud storage, granular rights management, advanced search and frictionless distribution to partners. RPM maintains complete control of its content while benefiting from infrastructure built for broadcast-scale operations. The same technology powers media operations for major sports organisations, broadcasters and production companies globally.
